[UPDATE] Ubisoft Can Now Terminate Your Account After Six Months Of Inactivity

Update: It seems like this rule has been around for many years. And as pointed out by a Ubisoft employee four years ago on Reddit, this rule only applies to accounts that don’t own or have not purchased any games license, which is understandable.

Original Story: Ubisoft has been under fire for many reasons, especially on the PC platform. If you don’t know, on PC, Ubisoft has its own launcher called Uplay where players can play all titles the company publishes including, Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six: Siege, Watch Dogs, etc. Recently, Ubisoft has updated its Terms and Services for European countries which now states that they can terminate any account that has been inactive for more than six months or so, which is completely wrong if you have purchased a license for one of their video games.

Your Ubisoft Account Is In Danger

It’s completely absurd that they can now terminate or ban any account that has been inactive for some time. One thing they didn’t specify in their ToS is that if this rule only applies to accounts that don’t own any video games license, in which case, it’s completely fine. Since your inactive account still utilizes resources even if it’s inactive. Here’s what the Terms of Services read:

“We may suspend or close your Account and your ability to use one or more Services or part of the Services, at any time, automatically and at our sole discretion where:

  • we have formally requested that you provide us with proof of your identity or to cease an action, behaviour, or breach of these Terms;
  • we have reasonable grounds to believe that you have violated these Terms (including the Rules of Conduct) or any specific terms and conditions relating to any Service;
  • for any other reason in relation to your actions in or outside of the Services;
  • upon notification, where your Account has been inactive for more than six months.”

You can read the complete Terms of Services here. If this is the case and they can ban your account for inactivity even if you’ve purchased their games, then this should be taken seriously by everyone who plays any Ubisoft games.
