Sony

Recently, Sony has filed a new patent for PlayStation that discusses the possibility of a separate application for gaming news media and content feed, similar to what we have on Google and Facebook. According to this new patent discovered by TGP, gaming news (guides, news, etc) will be pulled from the internet based on the user’s search history and keywords which is really interesting.

Embodiments of the present invention include systems and methods for providing targeted gaming news and content feeds. Information about an interaction by a user with an interactive content title and a plurality of interactive content titles may be stored in memory,” patent reveals. “Such information may be analyzed to identify one or more keywords that characterize the user interaction with the interactive content title. Media stored in a database may be filtered based on the identified keywords and displayed within a targeted media feed on a user device of the user. The displayed targeted media may be updated based on new information regarding user interaction with the interactive content title.”

Sony’s PlayStation 5 to Feature A Separate Gaming News Application?

The patent also mentions that this new feature may come with its own separate application on the PlayStation console. This will help players on consoles, in general, to get everything related to video games from one single app.

“The present invention may be implemented in an application that may be operable by a variety of end-user devices. For example, an end-user device may be a personal computer, a home entertainment system (e.g., Sony PlayStation2® or Sony PlayStation3® or Sony PlayStation4®), a portable gaming device (e.g., Sony PSP® or Sony Vita®), or a home entertainment system of a different albeit inferior manufacturer.”

We could be seeing this new feature in the recently-revealed PlayStation 5 that’s releasing in Holidays 2020. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments!
